4K HEVC 50fps without stutter
Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) hardware decodes HEVC 50fps natively — but only KSPlayer wires it correctly via VideoToolbox with asynchronous decompression. The same TF1 4K stream that stutters in IPTV Smarters plays clean here.
The only IPTV app that plays 4K HEVC 50fps cleanly on Apple TV 4K (3rd gen). Built specifically for the codec mix used by French and UK premium broadcasters.

AudioRendererPlayer instead of AVAudioPlayerNode for the audio path — fixes the muffled center channel that plagues VLC + KSPlayer's default config on Dolby Digital sources.
KSPlayer for 4K HEVC 50fps, MPV for exotic codecs, VLC for VOD with seek. The app picks automatically — and silently fails over if the first engine struggles.
When your stream carries HDR metadata, OneTV Connect passes it through to your TV without tone mapping in software (which would crush the dynamic range).
TF1 4K, France Télévisions 4K, Canal+ 4K, Sky Q UHD, BT Sport Ultimate, beIN 4K — all the premium European 4K feeds use HEVC 50fps. We test against them weekly.
For 4K HEVC live, we tune the demuxer buffer (300 MB on Apple TV 4K to handle bursty B-frames) and disable byte-offset reconnect (which causes PTS desync on TS streams). Settings are per-engine and per-stream-type.
Most iOS / tvOS IPTV apps use VLCKit or AVFoundation. VLCKit's HEVC decoder isn't tightly integrated with Apple's VideoToolbox — it can decode the frames but can't keep up with 50fps in real-time on the older A12 chip. AVPlayer in HLS mode handles HEVC 50fps but most IPTV streams aren't HLS — they're raw TS or MPEG-DASH, which AVPlayer doesn't speak. KSPlayer with FFmpeg + VideoToolbox is the only viable combo we've found.
The app installs and plays 1080p HEVC fine, but Apple TV HD's chip can't sustain 4K 50fps decoding regardless of the player. Same for older iPhones: anything pre-iPhone XS will struggle with 4K HEVC 50fps. iPad Pro M1+ is a fantastic 4K IPTV device.
Dolby Digital Plus and Atmos passthrough work over the Apple TV → eARC HDMI to your AVR. Lossless DTS-HD MA depends on your AVR; OneTV Connect doesn't transcode (we passthrough whatever the stream contains).
Same engine, same hardware decoding path — works the same way as 50fps. We test NBA League Pass and ESPN+ where 60fps streams are common.
